Lawn MowersOnce upon a time, lawn mowers as we know them did not exist. Hard to fathom, isn’t it? You would probably be a bit irate if you even had to go back just a few years to when there weren’t powered wheels or ones you could sit on. Imagine if you had two choices for keeping your lawn trimmed – livestock or a hand scythe. While keeping a few sheep to do the work may seem effortless and even better than today’s options, keep in mind that you had to care for the sheep and clean up after them.

The earliest mechanical lawn mowers came into existence in the early 1800s, but didn’t really become affordable and common until the latter part of the century. These rotary blade mowers did a pretty good job, but if you had a large yard, it would take you quite a few hours. This was especially problematic for estates, golf courses and the like, driving inventors to come up with engine-powered models.

Today’s lawn mowers are far more efficient than ever before, and many of their features make quick work of even the largest yards. What used to take hours can be done in just an hour or two. One cannot help but be intrigued by where lawn mowers will progress next. Could robotic ones be far off into the future? Probably not, but it will be a while till they are common and affordable.
